Welcome!
Colorado artist Sarah Phippen portrays the West with an understanding that comes from a deep love of the land, people and animals of the region in which she was born and raised. She grew up surrounded by livestock and wildlife at the base of the Rocky Mountains, with the artistic legacy of her grandfather George Phippen to inspire her. Sarah’s formal training began with private lessons when she was 14. Since then she has studied with prominent artists John Coleman for sculpting, and painters Jay Moore, Jim Norton, Daniel Sprick, Sandra Kaplan, and Anthony J. Ryder, each of whom deepened her understanding of oil painting, color and composition. In 2013 she was honored at the Phippen Museum Western Art Show and Sale, with the Joe Beeler CA Foundation Award, which recognizes an artist who exemplifies the quality of work and spirit of the West. In 2015 Western Art Collector honored her with an award for her body of work, and was a finalist in the 2015 International ARC Salon, a competition of international realist artists. In 2020 she began showing and painting at the Celebration of Fine Art in Scottsdale Arizona.
"My artwork encompasses the people, horses, cattle and wildlife of today’s American West. I am often delighted by moments that reveal a relationship of harmony between people, animals, and their surroundings." -Sarah Phippen
